Obituary for Merton C. Swanson

Merton C. Swanson
Merton Swanson, age 69 of Sand Creek, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at his home. He was born September 29, 1948 in Chippewa Falls to Norris and Amy (Anderson) Swanson. He married Marie Berg on October 18, 1969 in Sand Creek. Merton was a dairy farmer, living on the family farm his entire life. Upon retirement he was a driver for Gilberts of Sand Creek. He served his community as a member of the Volunteer Fire Department, Cooperative Boards and also as Town Chairman and Side Board member. He was a lifelong member of New Hope Lutheran Church, serving in many positions there. He pursued his passion of collecting antiques and anything John Deere green. He will be remembered for his quick wit, Monday Morning Milk House Meetings, love of family, friends and his small town neighbors.

He is survived by his wife: Marie of Sand Creek; daughters: Angela (Jim) Smith of Eau Claire, Stacy (Ryan) Hayes of Chetek and Erin (Joe) Browder of Bonney Lake WA; sister: Monica (Mike) Caroll of Naperville IL; grandchildren: Lauren and Bailey Hayes, Max and Blake Browder; numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Norris and Amy Swanson; sisters: Ione Elwood and Nihla Eder; brother-in-law: Merlin Elwood.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM at New Hope Lutheran Church in Sand Creek.. Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Burial of cremains will be in Our Savior’s Cemetery at a later date..
