Edgar Hinton “Blue” Wood, 90, of Winterville, GA, died Saturday, December 30, 2017.
A native of Oconee County, Mr. Wood was the son of the late H. Edgar Wood and Agnes Thrasher Wood. He was preceded in death by brothers: Shannon, Preston and Andrew Wood.
Mr. Wood was born October 24, 1927. He graduated from Winterville High School in 1945 and played on the school’s basketball team which won the state championship that year. Blue married Ruby Simmons on March 27, 1948. Right after marriage, he began his career with the United States Department of Agriculture retiring in 1984 with 35 years of service. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed farming, serving in the community and spending time with his family. Blue was of the Christian Faith. He was surrounded with friends all of his life.
Blue served on a number of boards over the course of his life including the board of Clarke County Department of Family and Children Services, Clarke County Farm Bureau and Main Street Bank. He was a member of the Georgia Cattleman’s Association and the Clarke County Farmers Round Table.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Simmons Wood; his daughter Kay (Bill) Tolbert, grandson Jay (Thérèse) Hodges; great grandchildren, Samuel Hodges, AbneyMarie Hodges and Marley Jane Hodges; sister, Martha Holladay.
Funeral Services will be Friday, January 5, 2018 at 2PM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, EAST, with Revs. Charles Vaughn and Kelvin Naef officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 5 until 7 and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Wood’s memory may be made to Georgia Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture at gfbfoundation.org.
