I last spoke with Anna in November. She and I had been speaking regularly during the past couple of years discussing my Mom, Anna's friend, Shirley Farner, who was suffering with Alzheimer's. I believe it was mainly due to Anna's support that my mother managed to remain living at 39 Stavebank Rd. for as long as she did. I had sent her a Christmas card telling her I would call her in the new year. She had sent me a card, of course. I had planned to call her on Jan. 4th.   Anna and my Mom met when my Mom lived in 403. Mom moved into the building in September, 1979. Anna and her husband, Orville moved in later and Mom and Anna would walk to the Go Train together going to work. Anna was a school teacher. Orville and Richard Farner were very good friends and Mom got to know Anna better after Mom married Richard and moved to 703 in 1987. Orville was outgoing and he and Anna went dancing one night a week for many years. Anna always attended church but after Orville died she went to church almost every day. She taught Sunday School at the catholic church and regularly did the reading on Sundays mornings. Anna was always sensible and frugal. She made or altered her own clothing and cut her own hair. Anna came to Canada from Scotland with girlfriends and began teaching school. She was the last of her siblings. In 2015, Anna lost her dear sister in Scotland and very shortly after her brother died of cancer in Buffalo, U.S.A. It was a hard year for her. I will miss not seeing recent cards and photos taken by Susan Grexton.   Although this is a sad occurrence, I know Anna would be grateful to have enjoyed the Christmas season; not had to change living quarters; not had to endure another long, cold winter.   Anna and Shirley (who passed away last May) will be missed by their friend Marnie, at The Chelsea, by Mark at the Crooked Cue and by the staff of the Brogue. Also by many residents at 39 Stavebank Rd. It is very fitting that the reception is being held at the Brogue. I am sorry I am not able to attend.   May she rest in peace. As Chris Payette suggested, Shirley should be waiting for Anna on the other side with a glass of dry, white wine, of course....
