Obituary for Francesco Vena

Francesco Vena
It is with an absolute sadness & heaviness in our hearts that we bid farewell to our father Francesco Vena or “Cicci” as he was known to all his friends and family. He breathed his last breath on this earth at 3:30 PM Wednesday January 3, 2018 .

He always was an elegant man and could be the life of any party. He had a beautiful lyrical tenor voice and could hold his high notes longer than most opera singers. He dedicated his life to his family and spent 62 years married to the love of his life and our mother Colomba Vena.

Born in Merano Marchesano Provincia di Cosenza Italy August 6th 1931 to Teresina De Rango and Annunziato Vena, he worked as a builder in Cosenza and helped to build many structures that are standing in that city to this day. On July 2 1955 he married his love Colomba. They immigrated to Canada in 1964 and made this new country their home. He worked as a welder for 35 years and helped to make the beams that hold up many of the overpasses on Hwy 401 and buildings in Toronto.

He is survived by his loving wife Colomba, three sons Tino, Claudio & Tony and his daughters-in-law Edith, Natalie & Samantha, as well as 7 grand kids, Amanda, Alex, Franklin, Tristan, Anthony, Michael & Enzo.

Francesco was the last of his brothers and sisters from the Vena clan and with his passing closes a chapter in this family.

This is a paraphrase of our mother's farewell "I will miss these hands that worked so hard for all of us, I will miss this voice that called out to us. I will miss how you worried about the strain on us all in taking care of you this last year. What's left to say after all these years. Sleep peacefully now my love". He drew his last breath two steps into his house after coming home from a routine procedure at the hospital, with his head on his wife and in the arms of his son Claudio. He always said he wanted to pass at home and not in the hospital. He will be dearly missed by many.
