Life Story for Kenneth Dean Harlow

Kenneth Dean Harlow was born on April 1, 1937 in Bradshaw, Nebraska to Russell and Bethel (Curren) Harlow. He grew up in Bradshaw, Polk and York area before moving to Valley. As a young boy, Kenny helped with the family farm and cared for his horse. He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country from June of 1954 through June of 1957, spending time on the front lines in Korea at the end of the war.

Kenny married Mary Jo Miller on November 22, 1956 and they were blessed with five children: Michael, Randall, Vicki, Patrick and Sheryl. They raised their family in the Waterloo area. Kenny married Carol Reynolds (Ondracek) on September 16, 1983 in O’Neill, Nebraska where they made their home until 2008 when they moved to Waterloo.

Kenny has been a truck driver his entire life. He enjoyed gardening, farm life, caring for his lawn and all things outdoors. Kenny loved to feed the birds and squirrels and hunt and fish. He treasured his family especially enjoying the grandchildren in recent years. Kenny was always active, he had to be doing something. Even this fall when he helped Vicki and Jack with their harvest and driving truck for Randy. Kenny enjoyed watching TV westerns and reading Zane Gray novels. He was an avid Husker fan, enjoyed BBQ ribs, a cold beer, and dinner out at the Fire Barn. In recent years, Kenny and Carol enjoyed breakfast at local cafés and Pie Wednesdays.

Kenny passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the Methodist Women’s Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 6 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Russell and Bethel, brother Wayne, son Patrick, sons-in-law Doug and Eben and grandchildren Christopher, Alivia, Douglas and Tex. Kenny is survived by his wife Carol; children Mike of Lincoln, Randy and Alicia of Waterloo, NE, Vicki and Jack Wollen of Yutan, Sheryl Swift of Omaha, Penni and Ron Chappelear of Waterloo, Michelle Benham of LaVista, Roxane and Tom Ellis of Lincoln and Laurie Richmond of LaVista; sister Diane (Mike) Agnitsch of Omaha; grandchildren Beverly, Bonnie, Joleen, Victoria, Kelcey, Travis (Ashely), Abbie, Trevor, Corey (Lindsey), Jeffrey, Fallon (Bret), Taylor (Ryley), Trent, Arissa (Jack), Geoffrey (Kendra), Hannah (Bill) and Colton; great grandchildren Tyler, Lianna, Briana, Susannah, Alexis, Audri, Josephine, Peyton, Hudson, Ashton, Stella, Easton, Blakeley, Leroy and Leo; neices and nephews John, James, Julianne and Tonia.
