Obituary for Lawrence M. "Larry" Trout

1928-2018
Lawrence M. Trout, 89, formerly of the Swarthmorewood Section of Ridley Township for 60 years, died at his home “At The Shore” in Wildwood, NJ on Tuesday January 9, 2018. He was a long time and founding member of Notre Dame de Lourdes Church.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, and growing up in Chester, He was the son of the late Francis J and the late Nora (Doyle) Trout. Larry graduated from St. James High School where he was a member of their Alumni. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in History from Mount St. Mary’s College (now University.) He received his Master’s in Education from Villanova University. He served in the Army during the Korean War, spending 8 months in Japan working with the CIC. After four years service, he left as a sergeant.
Having natural athletic ability, Larry played football, basketball and baseball in high school, earning All Catholic Honors in Football in 1945 and 1946 while at St. James. He earned a sports scholarship to Mount St. Mary’s as a part of their only football team ever fielded. Larry was Co-Captain and made the Associate Press College Football Round-Up a few Saturday evenings.
Mr. Trout was a retired Social Studies Teacher, employed by Ridley School District for over 30 years. Besides being teacher at Ridley North Junior High School, he coached and mentored students in track, football, basketball and other sports. Many of is former players have said over the years, “if it wasn’t for Mr. Trout, I wouldn’t be the person I am today.” His motto was “It’s Fun To Run.”
Predeceased by his wife of almost 50 years, Mary L. (nee Casey) Trout, his grandson Samuel L. Mathues, his brothers Joseph and Francis J. Trout, Jr.
Survived by his two daughters Francie Trout and Noreen Trout- Mathues.
Granddaughter, Julia Mathues
Many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 11:00 am at Notre Dame De Lourdes, Fairview Rd. & Michigan Ave., Swarthmore.
Friends may call Saturday from 9-10:45 am at the church.
Interment in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery, Linwood.
