Obituary for Richard K. "Dicker" Ames

Richard K. "Dicker"  Ames
Richard K. “Dicker” Ames, 74, of River Rd., Eaton, NY, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse.
He was born August 22, 1943 in Oneida, a son of Kenneth and Florence Miller Ames. His mother passed away when he was very young, and he was raised by his father and step-mother, Lorraine. Richard was a graduate of Morrisville High School and SUNY, Cobleskill. On October 22, 1966, Richard married Marsha M. Piper in Morrisville. He owned and operated his dairy farm, Collegetown Holsteins, and had also been a groundskeeper at the Cazenovia Country Club. He enjoyed playing softball, was a WWII buff and loved tractors. His favorite times were spent with his beloved grandchildren. He also liked meeting with his morning coffee club in his old milk house.
Richard was a former member of the Eaton Volunteer Fire Department; and a past member of the Eaton Town Council.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Marsha; his children, Darren Ames, Daniel Ames and Michele Stowell, Joanna and Chuck Stewart, all of Eaton; sisters and brother-in-law, Gail Rhyde of Hamilton; Jean Wolstenholme of VT; Karen and Bruce Thompson of Oneonta; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald Ames of AZ; Philip and Lesya Ames of IN; Murry and Naydene Ames of Eaton; his grandchildren who were the love of his life, Emily, Evan, Shane and Allison Stewart; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Beverly Davis.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be sent to the Eaton Fire Department, Eaton NY 13334; or to the M-ECS Sports Boosters, PO Box 990, Morrisville, NY 13408.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Homes, Inc., 31 Cedar St., Morrisville, NY.
