Today Aunt Pat you are anxiously awaiting your journey home. I am so sorry I wasn't there tonight to kiss you goodbye and say my final farewell. However, the power of words have a way of making things easier to accept.

I have spent the last few days thinking of nothing but you and the memories we share. I have strolled through the years of my youth and recalled how fascinated I was by you and your diabetes. I remember spending every opportunity I had just watching you and how you took such care when taking yourinsulin and doing your blood sugars and always explaining everything so carefully so I could understand. Who knew a few short years later I would "catch it too"! I thought I was just like you and that we had something very special in common that only you and I shared. How lucky I felt. Thank you for teaching me and for the sacrifices and generosity you had in constantly forwarding the world of medicine into the future and the possiblity of a world without such a devastating disease.

I also remembered our shopping trips in town, in search for the next bag of fashion goodies. I remember you coming to Newmarket for trips to the Stouffville Barns and of coarse Crazy Lees. You taught me my directional left's and rights...or should I say my "other lefts and other rights.....after all I was in charge of Navigation to these stores. Thank goodness you noticed the small finger points in the direction we were going as I tried to figure it out, otherwise I think we would still be weaving our way through town!

I watched you intently throught the years struggle with pain and suffering and what seemed a never ending number of back surgeries. I am still in awe of how you handled all the pain and the challenges that you faced. You still managed to keep a bright spirit and hope that "this is the one that will work". I've shared a similar fate over the last 12 years and know the pain of which you endured and the "Hope" for the one that works. Thank you for being an inspiration and a measuring stick for reslience and determination.

This whole family is very devoted and supportive of one another, both immediate and extended. I know that many of us tonight are mourning the loss of such a wonderful part of this family. I know you loved each and every member of you own family devoutly and fiercely until the very end. We all hold vigil for you tonight, wherever we may be.

I'm watching the clock as I write this, and it's in the closing moments with your family that's about to happen. In some small way I want to take comfort in the fact I am writing this at the same time. It's may way of placing myself in the same room with all of them right now.
I am so happy that you are surrounded by everyone you love so dearly. This is a gift....for you all.

I know you are anxious to start your journey to the Hereafter....and finally be reunited with the love of your life. The wait must have seemed like an eternity.
As I am sure the welcome you are going to recieve will be wonderful; all warm and glowing,full of familiar faces. Now is the time.....Walk tall, run, skip, dance...heck fly if you want to. He's there and waiting for you.
