When my wife, Donna, and I were about to get married, it was customary for the couple to meet with Brother Stockard before the ceremony took place. Little did I know that he used this time to make sure that the couples were saved, and that he was not participating in joining two "unequally yoked" partners. He was the first man to ask me if I was saved. I had only been with Donna a short time so I had not had sufficient time to be doused with the full extent of the Gospel. When Brother Stockard asked me If I was saved, I stammered awkwardly and eked out a weak "yes"; however, I knew in my heart that I was not saved. He was very patient and kind and did not push at that time. Later, I would come under conviction and be saved not quite two years later in 1973. Brother Stockard helped me to begin thinking about eternity, and the Lord finished the job by saving my soul and assuring me that I would go to heaven when I passed from this life. When I think of the words "Faithful" and "Dedicated", I include Brother Stockard in my thoughts; he was a true servant of God, and we have been blessed to have known him.
