Linda Chambers Hughes, age 71 of Mount Airy, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2018.

Born in Habersham County, Georgia on January 3, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Juanita Smith Chambers. She was employed with Habersham Hardware as a cashier for many years. Mrs. Hughes has served on the Mount Airy City Council since January 2008. She enjoyed reading and was a member at Mount Airy Baptist Church. Mrs. Hughes was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Roy Chambers.

Surviving are her husband, Tommy Hughes of Mount Airy; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher & Debra Hughes of Mount Airy; son and daughter-in-law, Derrick Hughes & Jamie Shirley of Mount Airy; grandchildren, Kayla Hughes, Jonathan Hughes, Gracie Hughes, Bryson Shirley and Brayden Hughes.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 pm, Sunday, January 21, 2018 from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart with Rev. Dr. Oliver Dorsey officiating. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Friday, January 19, 2018 and 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the funeral home.
