Mary Jane Ortegon 63 of San Angelo passed away peacefully on January 18, 2018 surrounded by loving family. Memorial services will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Monday, January 22nd, 2018 at 11 a.m. Any offerings of sympathy may be sent to 39 W. 15th. Arrangements are by Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way.
Mary Jane was born on August 25, 1954 in San Angelo, Tx to Victor Samaniego Sr. and Jane Mendez. She was married to Juan M. Velez for 31 years and had 3 children. Married to Henry Ortegon for 17 years. Mary Jane received an Associates Degree of Nursing from Angelo State University. She was then employed by Shannon Medical Center for 31 years as a Pediatric R.N nurse were she worked tirelessly to provide loving care to many families. She was involved for many years with the Children's Miracle Network.
Survived by husband, Henry Ortegon; parents, Victor Samaniego Sr., Jane Mendez (Eulalio Mendez); siblings, Dolores Acosta, Veronica Samaniego Galindo, Victor Samaniego Jr., Sonya Aguilar (Tracy Farmer); children, Juan S. Velez, Joseph E. Velez, Leanora J. Velez; Grandchildren, Darrian Velez, Adrianna Velez, Karina Velez, Annika Velez, Alexis Velez, Joseph E. Velez II, Lilliana Velez, and Rowdy J. Velez; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by Lionel Samaniego and Juan M. Velez.
Mary Jane was a great daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother. She was a mother to all that needed nurturing. Her vocation as a Pediatric nurse was to extend her loving nature to many children and families, and anyone who was in need of a loving mother. She has now gained her wings and continues her nurturing care from above.
