Obituary for Edward Francis McNesby
A very religious man, Edward Francis McNesby, 94, went home to be with the Lord and join the rest of his family – parents Anna & James, brothers Jim, Jack, Frank & Paul, sisters Gertrude, Dorothy and Marion, step-son George and son-in-law James Bradley.
Ed grew up in Kensington, a section in Philadelphia at a time when it was beautiful and safe. He attended Mass and school at Ascension & St. Hughs and went to Northeast High School.
Ed started in the produce business opening a store at “A” and Westmoreland. Then, along with his brother Frank at “B” and Westmorland, opened McNesby’s Café, which was a great bar/restaurant serving all the Philco workers and teachers from Stetson Jr. High for lunch. This is where he met his future wife Lottie, along with her two children George and Lottie.
Ed and Lottie opened a beer mart in Olney and another successful bar, Lottie’s Lounge at “E” and Westmoreland. In the early 70’s they purchased a home in Brigantine, sold all their land and assets in Philly and moved down the shore. Too young to retire, Ed became a bartender at Resort’s International for almost 20 years where he worked with his daughter Lottie (cocktail server) and son-in-law Jim (fellow bartender). Ed said this was his favorite job.
Ed had an upbeat personality and worked well with the public, which was why everyone like him and why his businesses were all successful. Ed afforded his family a wonderful, very comfortable life, never denying anyone anything. We will love and miss him always.
Ed is survived by his wife, Lottie of 55 years, daughter Lottie and grandson Brandon, who gave him much joy.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 24th from 10am-11am at St. Vincent DePaul Church, 5021 Harding Highway, Mays Landing, NJ where a service will be held at 11am. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.
