Obituary for Arthur Jospeh Gangell, Sr.
Arthur J. Gangell, Sr, 75, of Lee, died Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the Laurel Lake Center with his family at his side.
Art was born January 17, 1943, the son of George H. and Bessie Althia DeForest Gangell. He was raised and educated in Lee. Art proudly served in the US Army from 1963 until 1965 in Germany. After his honorable discharge, Art went to work for the former Peter J. Schweiter Paper Co, retiring in 2001. Soon after retirement, Art decided he needed to keep busy and went to work for Dresser Hull Co. for several years.
Art or “raccoon” as his friends called him, enjoyed hunting and fishing and his time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Art leaves behind one son, Arthur J. Gangell, Jr of Stockbridge; one daughter, Lynn E. Gangell of Lee; two grandchildren: Sarah Gangell of Buffalo, NY and Kyle Gangell of Lee. In addition, he leaves behind his two brothers: Byron “Peck” Gangell and his wife Carol of Lee and Robert Gangell of Lee and his best friend Deborah A. Broga of Lee.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10AM at the Fairmount Cemetery with the Rev. Janet Zimmerman, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make a donation in Art’s name to either the Berkshire Humane Society or HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238.
