Obituary for James V. Mullen

James V. Mullen, 85, of Hyde Park, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at James J. Peters V.A. Medical Center in the Bronx. He was born in Globe, N.C., the son of Herman and Lois Holloway Mullen. He was a Wappingers Falls resident over 50 years, and was of American Cherokee Indian ancestry. Mr. Mullen served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1949 to 1951. He was one of the only survivors of the Chosin Reservoir battle. Jim was married on Dec. 26, 1954 in Mt Carmel Church to the former Nancy Sammartino, who died in September 2004. He was employed at IBM in Poughkeepsie and E. Fishkill, retiring in 1987. Jim enjoyed racing his MG Sprite and Mach Mustang at Limerock, Ct. He was active in Fast pitch softball, Judo, Archery, was a Ralph Peak hiker, was an accomplished wood carver, owning Mountainboy Carvings. He was a member of the Hudson Valley Wood Carving Club, and volunteered as an Appalacian Trail maintainence man. While a resident of Wappingers Falls, he owned the Mid-Hudson Judo Club. Jim also enjoyed his special friends at McDonald's. Surviving are his children, Rick Mullen, and his companion Leigh Evans, Rob Mullen and his wife Gina, Pamela Mullen, and her special friend Anthony Verdile, all of Hyde Park, Grandchildren, Nikki Nagy, Gabriella, Timmy, Rachel, Artis, Kaitlyn, Jessica, Ava, and Layla. He was predeceased by Sons, Mark and James, a brother, Thomas Mullen, Sister, Faye Jansen, and brother-in-law, Thomas Sammartino. Friends may call at the Delehanty Funeral Home 64 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls, Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Services will be held at 1:30 PM., followed by an Honor Guard service by the Marine Corps.
