Obituary for Arnold Edward Paskaruk

Arnold Edward Paskaruk
A husband, father, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, friend, colleague, neighbor; “Arnie” was all of these things and so much more to everyone who knew him. After a courageous, yet brief, battle for his life, Arnie passed away peacefully on Monday January 29, 2018 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba with his family by his side.

Arnie was born on March 11, 1961 in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba to Harry and Victoria Paskaruk. The second youngest of six children, Arnie grew up in Mink Creek and attended Ethelbert School where he graduated from Grade 12 in 1979. While attending school, Arnie played hockey with the Ethelbert Eagles and played drums in a band. He also spent a lot of time helping his grandparents and uncle, working long hours on the farm. When not busy on the farm, Arnie enjoyed working on small automotive projects at his parents store; he also helped to cut grass at the community church and cemetery.

After graduation, Arnie joined his father Harry, and brother Morris, on the B&B gang with CN Railway. Working at many locations across Northern Manitoba, it was during this time Arnie met the love of his life, Sandra, and moved his life to The Pas. Arnold and Sandra married on July 9, 1983. He then decided to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming an Automotive Mechanic. Shortly after, Arnold attended Keewatin Community College where he graduated from the Motor Vehicle Mechanics Program in 1985, receiving the Lieutenant Governors Medal for academic excellence in his program. It was also during this time, that Arnold and Sandra welcomed their daughter, Krystle Lynne, into the world. His daughter was his pride and joy, sharing many great memories together over Arnie’s lifetime.

Arnie began employment with Twin Motors, where he worked as an Automotive Technician until October 1996; he then began his career as an Instructor with the Automotive Program at Keewatin Community College. Arnie, was a colleague and friend to many in his trade and in his teaching profession. Arnie dedicated over twenty years of service to the Automotive Technician Program, as both an Instructor to High School Level 1 & 2 Mechanics as well as the Pre-employment Automotive Technician Program. When not teaching, Arnies’ love for the Automotive Trade was further exemplified by countless presentations to on-site tour groups, delivering exciting demonstrations at UCNs annual Career & Try a Trade event, teaching basic vehicle maintenance to community groups such as the girl guides and his long-term dedicated involvement with Skills Canada Manitoba events including the Young Mens and Women’s Conferences, the Skills Manitoba Competition, the National Skills Canada Competition and most recently, the Northern MB Skills Challenge hosted at UCN.

Teaching hundreds of students over his career, Arnie was truly a mentor to many, encouraging and inspiring his students to persevere and pursue careers in the Automotive Trade. He will be lovingly remembered for his great sense of humour, kind-spirit and big heart; he was always there to lend a hand, often going above and beyond to help his students, colleagues, family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory, his wife Sandra; daughter, Krystle; mother, Victoria; siblings, Morris Paskaruk (Eileen) and family, Glenn Paskaruk (Leanne) and family, Constance Faucher and family, Mike Paskaruk; Sister-in-law Janet Luce (Gene) and family; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
