Wilson - Funeral Services for Mrs. Margaret Ann (Bates) Porter, 76, of Wilson are scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Alexander Funeral Home Chapel of Wilson with Rev. Jim McGaughy officiating. Interment will follow at the Bomar Point Cemetery of Wilson.
Margaret was born on February 28, 1941 at Sanger, TX to the late Mr. Paul Bates and Mrs. Una Oleta (Taylor) Bates. She departed this life on Thursday Feb. 1, 2018 at her home in Wilson.
Margaret was raised in the Wilson area attending school at Post Oak. She married Mr. Earl Dean Barnes and to this union they were blessed with 3 children, Tony, Leta and Tim. Margaret was employed for Wilson Public Schools as a Bus Driver and Custodian for over 20 years. Margaret loved being part of all the children's day.
Later in life she married Byron Porter and he preceded her in death in 1977. Margaret had a passion for gardening and caring for her grandchildren. She was also a caregiver for numerous families of Wilson and always had open arms to anyone in need. Margaret was a member of the Wilson Assembly of God Church.
Preceding her in death was her Parents; son, Tony Barnes; grandson, Chad Barnes; sister, Paulette Whitlock; brothers, Eddie Bates and Scotty Bates.
Survivors include a daughter, Leta Skaggs and son, Tim Barnes, both of Wilson; granddaughters Kylie Skaggs and Hallie Barnes; grandsons, Jetty Barnes, Rusty Fielding and Jake Fielding; great grandchildren,Megan, Ryland, Emma, River, Brooklyn and Kason; great great grandchildren, Rebel and Rage and one other on the way; numerous other family and friends.
Casket Bearers are Jetty Barnes, Jake Fielding, Rusty Fielding, Justin Barnes, J.J. Barnes, Randy Barnes and Todd Barnes.
Honorary Bearers will be Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
A very special thank you to Shirley Richards for her kind felt care and extended love and compassion, the family could not have endured her sickness without you.
Also a thank you to Cross Timbers Hospice for their support.
Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8pm Monday, Feb. 5, 2018 at Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.
