Obituary for Eleanor A. Hall

Eleanor A. Hall, 85, died Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at her home. She was the wife of her loving and devoted husband, Richard R. Hall.

Memorial services will begin at 11am Monday, February 12, 2018 at Stewartstown United Methodist Church, 26 S. Main St. Stewartstown with Rev. Edward Zeiders officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Following the memorial service everyone is invited to gather in the fellowship hall for a time of sharing and refreshments.

Mrs. Hall was born May 20, 1932 in Jersey City, NJ to the late Else (Hegendorfer) and Ernst Meerkamm. She graduated from Frankford High School in Philadelphia. She then received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from West Chester University in 1953. Mrs. Hall also attended classes at Temple, Penn State and Millersville Universities.

Before engaging in teaching, Eleanor Hall was employed in the quality Control Dept. of the Philadelphia Enquirer and the Rohm Haas Chemical Co. She began her teaching career at Cheltanham Township, a Philadelphia suburb, and taught in the Dallastown Area District, finishing her career with 25 years as a third grade teacher and a head teacher at the Stewartstown Elementary School. Mrs. Hall had a total of 31 years teaching experience gaining love and respect from many pupils.

Eleanor initiated the first Stewartstown Summer Playground and was a life member of the National Education Association. She was a member and past president of the Stewartstown Business and Professional Women and a member and Chaplain of the Stewartstown Lioness Club. She held a variety of offices and served on various commissions of the Stewartstown United Methodist Church, was a member of Delta-Kappa Society, The Board of York County Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, the Board of Growing Place Day Care Center, and member of Mason-Dixon and the Advisory Board of the Stewartstown Library Building Committee. She enjoyed the hobby of painting using a medium of oils.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hall is survived by two sons, Mark R. Hall and his wife, Cindy of Airville, and Eric R. Hall and his wife, Michelle of Silver Spring, MD; and her grandchildren, Alexander, Julianne, Shane and wife Shannon and Justin and wife Erin; two great-grandchildren Mason and Emma.
