Obituary for Ruth Vestfals Ramins
Ruth V. Ramins nee Ruta Vestfals passed away Saturday, February 3, 2018 at her home in Warrington, PA after a long battle with Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD). She was 76.
Ruth was born in January 1942 in the countryside of southeastern Latvia. She was the eldest child of George H. and Vera Skriveris Vestfals who preceded her in death.
As a girl, she and her family were World War II refugees. The Vestfals immigrated to the United States and became U S citizens. They initially lived in Virginia but then settled in eastern Ohio where Ruth graduated from Fairfield-Waterford School District in 1960 and Youngstown University in 1964 with a B. S. in Medical Technology.
In September 1964, Ruth married Gunars H. Ramins who then lived in Sellersville, PA. They were together 51 years until he passed away in February 2016. Ruth lived in Warrington for 49 years.
Ruth worked in the lab at Abington Memorial Hospital until the birth of her first son in 1965. She later worked in the lab at Doylestown Hospital before becoming the office manager for Gunars’ building supply and contracting businesses. She ended her career working 18 years for the Coverdales-Hermann, Ltd. medical practice in Doylestown, PA. She retired as Office Manager in 2014.
She was elected to the Warrington Township Board of Supervisors in 1985 and was honored to serve one term, 1986-1991. She enjoyed reading, needlepoint and growing orchids.
Ruth is survived by her three sons: Todd of Warrington, PA; Mark and his wife, Tricia, of Brick, NJ and Roberts of Warrington, PA. She adored her beloved granddaughter, Courtney, and was immensely proud of her grandsons: Ryan, Riley and Gavin. She is also survived by her sister, Marta Stanfield, (husband William) of Columbiana, OH; her brother, George R. Vestfals, (wife Paula) of Longview, TX and her cousin, Otis Vestfals, (wife Paula) of Hartsville, OH.
Ruth did not wish to have a memorial service. Memorial contributions may be made “In memory of Ruth V. Ramins” to: Cure PSP (dedicated to finding a cure for neurological diseases including CBD) at: psp.org or Doylestown Health Hospice at: doylestownhealth.org/hospice.
