Condolence: Nana,

I love and will miss you forever, but the memories I have of you, and the things in life that I have learned from you, will stay with me forever. You were the sweetest, kindest, caring, giving and selfless wife, mother, grandmother and person. I remember my visits to your house as a young adult and our conversations at the kitchen table. Of course, it was never without a snack. You always had an encouraging and supportive word…sharing the happy times and events of life with me, and in times where I was down, you were always there with encouraging words…”It will be OK, dear” in your sweet voice that I can still hear in my head, just to name a few. You helped show me how to be strong when facing trials in life by the example you set. You were a wonderful cook and homemaker and you taught me a lot about those things by showing me and also by watching you over the years. In earlier days, I loved it when you and grandpa would babysit us when my parents went away. I remember getting to go out to dinner with you both several times on a Saturday night, as you both did regularly, and you taught me restaurant etiquette that I have shared my own family. I remember holidays at your house...Easter egg hunts in your yard, dancing to the Chipmunks Christmas songs at Christmas time, sitting on your sunporch, all the wonderful food you would make, of course sourdough pancakes are high up on the list. I still have and make some of the best recipes you shared with me. They will always be “Nana’s recipes”. I remember playing with and walking Gussie, the dachshund, on the sidewalks around your house, climbing the tree on the side of the garage, your herb garden and the secret bin in your basement where I would find a special goodie hidden from time to time. I remember cutting lilacs from your tree. The smell and sight of lilacs have and will always remind me of you and the love I have for you. I could go on and on with the memories and naming all the things I learned from the example that both you and grandpa set for all of us. Thank you for everything you have ever done for me. I will always love you and your life lives on in my heart. I am so blessed to be your granddaughter.

Condolence: Dear Nanny,

Your never-ending warmth, thoughtfulness and selflessness will live on with our family and friends forever! We all have so much that we learn from you - ideals that you lived by including kindness, humility, humbleness, respect, care and of course, never-ending and unconditional LOVE.

No matter where you were, you always made every family and friend feel welcome. Whether we were visiting your home in Chambersburg or you were visiting ours in Hershey, you found ways to show your love. Emily and I took anxiously hurried home from school on days that we knew you would be visiting Hershey. We ran down our driveway because we knew your car waiting in the driveway! When we entered the house, we first smelled fresh baked cookies but opted instead to run to you for one of your amazing hugs. During those school day, it was such a treat to be able to think throughout the day that "Nanny is arriving today!"

Similarly, I remember your how effortless you made everything look when we visited Chambersburg. Before we set a foot inside the door, fresh beds were made, lunch sandwiches were ready, and the TV room was queued up for special showings of Fantasia. Your tirelessness and selflessness continued throughout our entire stay. I always remember that after a full day of fun at your house, I would be exhausted by the evening. Your tirelessness spirit meant that you often stayed up well into the night, after everyone else had gone to sleep, so that you could prepare for the next day. Nanny's love never sleeps!

Because of you, our entire family and friends have a role model for all that we strive to be - kind, thoughtful, hard-working, caring, loving. We will continue to celebrate you forever. Thank you for everything!

Condolence: Nanny was the sweetest most-thoughtful person I am so lucky to be her granddaughter! She made the best pancakes, especially when, by request, she added chocolate chips in the shape of a smiley face. We liked playing mini golf, dyeing Easter eggs, playing rummy, playing piano duets, writing letters to each other, eating crab cakes, and baking cookies together. When she'd come to visit I'd get so excited to see her light blue Buick Riviera parked in the driveway when I got home from school. Her's was the first phone number I memorized and before we'd hang up one said "kiss, kiss, hug, hug" and the other replied "hug, hug, kiss, kiss." She always gave the best hugs and listened so well often saying things like "Is that right?" and "C'mon now you can do it!" and "Oh, I love you too, dear." For all her sweetness she also had such strength. Starting college in the 1930s when few women went, getting married just before the love of her life shipped out to serve in the Navy before WWII, and graciously hosting holiday and birthday dinners in her home. Thank you for sharing your love and life with us and passing your kindness on to all of us! Love you, Nanny! XXOO

Condolence: May your memories be a comfort in this difficult time. Emily spoke often of her love and thankfulness for her grandmother's presence in her life.

Thank you for the goodness, sweetness, and love you provided this family.
You were a great cook.
Not once did we visit without you making a sandwich or sweet treat.
Even if it was a quick snack you would always have a dinner table place setting complete with place mat, fork, knife, napkin, and juice glass with crushed ice.
Holiday meals were something to behold, be smitten with and definitely be devoured.
You would always send us home with a double batch of pancake batter and wanted that Tupperware container returned.
Being with you was fun and a happy place.
The sodas were stashed under the stairs in the basement.
That trip to get a soda was always fun because the basement was full of cool and interesting old curiosities.
Old furniture, lamps, old toys, two big old wooden bird cages, grandfather’s framed collection of arrow heads, and presidential campaign buttons from years past come to mind.
I love the way you loved.
The way you loved your husband and family is a special kind of beautiful, something to strive for.
Growing up we had lots of laughs together be it sliding down the hallway stairs, climbing in the tree outside the garage and later playing rounds of golf.
You had your hair done often and you smelled good, Chanel #5, I think.
Regardless the holiday you sent a card.
Memories of Christmas times past and listening to the old record player will forever bring warm emotions into my heart.
Principles of getting more than you give or being loved more than you love is evidenced from the deep emotions and sweet memories your passing evokes in all of us.
Regardless of the occasion, being with you made me feel special and loved.
I’m very fortunate and proud to be a descendent of you.
You were a sweet and loving grandmother, thank you. I wish everyone in the world could have a grandmother like you.
You will live on in my memory.
