Peacefully, our beloved Dad, Grampa, and Great-Grampa passed away with his family at his side.
Dad was born in Winnipeg Manitoba to Melvin (Bud) Steppler and Isabel Steppler (nee Lower) on July 13th, 1931.
Dad's early eagerness to read set him on a lifelong love of learning, which soon inspired creative talents. He began with pencil sketchings, moved on to pen and ink, and eventually mastered oil painting to the point where his Grade 9 art teacher at Hugh John McDonald asked him to paint a mural in the classroom. He continued to paint and draw throughout his life, even during his longtime career at Federated Co-op which he retired from in 1992.
Dad had many hobbies including photography, bird watching, playing classical guitar, and collecting. He had a keen eye for collectibles and spent many hours in antique shops, at one point discovering a nurse's autograph book in an old sewing machine. Decades later, Dad decided that he wanted to find the book's rightful owner. He contacted a tv program that specialized in doing just that. This led to Dad being invited to England to return the autograph book to it's rightful family, which meant a lot to him.
Dad was predeceased by his parents, Melvin & Isabel Steppler, his brother, Walter Steppler, and his sister, Marjorie Thompson. Left to celebrate his life and cherish memories are his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, as well as many extended family members and friends.
We were fortunate to have him in our lives.
