Mary A.  Oliver (Hanley)
Mary A. Oliver nee Hanley, 70 of Bricktown, NJ died on Sunday February 11, 2018. Born in Newark, NJ she lived in Lakehurst, NJ from 1969 until moving to Brick in 2006. Mary received her Degree in Education from Seton Hall University and her post Graduate Degree from Georgian Court University. Mary worked as a Teacher of the Handicapped K-12 for 25 years retiring from Neptune Twsp. Mary served on the Council in Lakehurst, was a Board member and 60 year plus member of the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore and the order of the Evergreen. She was a past president of Soroptimist International, North Atlantic Region, Dream it be it Chair the career Support for Girls Program and the Soroptimist International Woman’s Hall of Fame, the First Woman of Distinction 1988. Appointed by the Ocean County Freeholders to the Workforce Development Board, Youth Standing Committee 1999 to present and the Ocean County Advisory Commission on the Status of Women Executive Board serving as Chair 1980-89. Mary was the first woman inducted into the Ocean County College Hall of Fame. She was the Founder and First President of the Lakehurst Historical Society. A 25 year member of the League of Women Voters receiving the Jailed for Freedom Pin in 2013 and a parishioner of St John’s RC Church in Lakehurst. Predeceased by her sister Patricia. Surviving is her beloved son Kevin J. Oliver and his wife Tara of Lakehurst, NJ, her loving companion of 27 years Raymond J. Harney. A brother Friar Charles B.A. Hanley ofm Capuchin of Lodi, NJ. A sister Hanoria Baker and her husband Michael of Texas. 3 Grandchildren Nickolas, Elizabeth and Rachael. Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing on Thursday February 15, 2018 from 5-8pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals 145 St Catherine Blvd Toms River, NJ. The Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday 11am at St John’s RC Church, Lakehurst, NJ with burial to follow at St Catharine’s Cemetery, Sea Girt, NJ.
