Obituary for Theresa E. Madore

Millinocket – Theresa E. Madore peacefully passed away in her sleep, at home, on the morning of February 8, 2018. She was born on November 5, 1930, the 13th of 14 children born to Thomas and Estella Mae (Reynolds) Pound.

Theresa attended Millinocket area schools and graduated from Stearns High School in 1948. She was the lead cheerleader for the Minutemen basketball team where she not only cheered for, but also dated, the standout basketball player, Henry Madore, Jr. They were married on May 3, 1949. Theresa was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and family-oriented person.

In her active adult years, Theresa enjoyed ice (figure) skating, dancing, shopping, playing cards, charity work, traveling, visiting friends and family, and taking care of her family and home. She was a very strong and resilient woman, enduring a near fatal automobile accident (severe concussion and month-long coma) in 1956, battling schizophrenia from its onset in the early 1960’s, and suffered an ischemic stroke in October 2010, which limited her activities. Theresa returned home in March, 2011, and from then on received her 24/7 direct primary care from her loving and dedicated husband.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 69 years, Henry Madore, Jr.; a son, Bryant Madore and his wife Wendy; grandchildren, Heather and Matthew; brothers in law, Ronald, John, and Arnold Madore; sisters in law Marie Miller, Jacqueline Sopko, Emily Pound, Betty Lou Pound, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Theresa was predeceased by 13 siblings, Tully, Marsha, Atwood, Darryle, Lloyd, Otis, Oswald, Muriel, Marie, Bryant, J. Thomas, Elizabeth, and Donald. Also, her beloved cocker spaniel, Pat.

Theresa’s passing completes the over century long life cycle of history of a specific and unique 16-member branch of the Pound family tree.

Graveside services will be conducted at Millinocket Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket.
