Victoria - Leroy Schaefer, 86, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 10, 2018.
Leroy was born in Lavaca County on June 7, 1931 to Herman Schaefer and Hilda Reindhart Shaefer.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for ten years and fought in the Korean War. He was a disabled veteran. Leroy worked as a supervisor at the Witco plant in Point Comfort for many years and later retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was very devoted to his loving wife, Lila, who he married in 1980. They loved to travel and spend time with family. Leroy loved gardening, woodworking, fishing and playing his guitar especially with his brother, Roland.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wilfred (Bonnie) Schaefer.

Leroy is survived by his wife, Lila Schaefer; sons Ron (Brenda) Schaefer, Rick (Carla) Schaefer, Rusty (Judy) Schaefer; step daughters Irma (Neal) Graham, Palmira (K.W.) Van Zandt; step son, Abel (Margarita) Alvarez; brothers Vernon (Bea) Schaefer and Roland Schaefer; sister, Annie Vaughn and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 – 1:30 pm Thursday, February 15, 2018 with the Funeral Mass at 1:30 at The Cathedral of Our Lady of Victory with Father Kristopher Fuchs officiating.

Burial with full military honors under the auspices of the Victoria County Veterans Council, AL, CWV, VFW, DAV, MCL, MOWW, EX-POW, MOPH, VVA, and KWV will be at Resurrection Cemetery.

Pallbearers include James White, Jason Oates, Robert White, Ron Schaefer and Rick Schaefer.
