Obituary for Gloria VanWinkle (Goode)

Gloria  VanWinkle (Goode)
Gloria VanWinkle age 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Tuesday February 13, 2018 in Berea. Gloria was born in Fayette County, West Virginia to the late Emory and Sarah Tully Goode. Gloria enrolled in Berea College in 1948 where she received her BA in Sociology, she later completed a Master of Arts degree in Counseling and Administration from Eastern Kentucky University. Gloria began working for Berea College in 1964, she retired in 1996 at which time she was the Associate Dean of Student Life. Gloria was a member of Union Church where she was active with many committees and boards, however her passion was singing in the choir. She was honored by Union Church as a Lifetime Deacon. Gloria especially enjoyed playing bridge with her dear friends, and many times incorporated card playing with her famous beach vacations.
Gloria is survived by her children: Laura Linda Parsons, Vicki (Debra) VanWinkle, John (Gail) VanWinkle, Carolyn (Chris) Jones, and Barb (John) Mills, and her brother Emory “Diz” (Joan) Goode, 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Gloria was preceded in death by her brothers Fred and John (Henrietta) Goode, her son-in-law Lt. Colonel Kenneth A. Parsons (Ret.).
A Celebration of Life will take place at Union Church 2pm, Saturday, March 17, 2018. Online condolences can be left at www.lakesfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to Union Church, Hospice Care Plus or Habitat for Humanity.
