Obituary for Steven Atwood Rosen

Steven Atwood Rosen
Steven Atwood Rosen, age 60, died Monday February 19, 2018 in Houston, TX.

The youngest of four children, Steven Atwood Rosen was born to parents Atwood Avery Rosen and Hilda Marie Wasson Rosen in Lawrenceville, IL on August 10, 1957. Before the age of ten, Steven had lived in Jamestown, IN and Tulsa, OK, before settling in Houston, TX. As a child, Steve made friends with classmates Rory Couvillion, Brian Mangham, Keith Hoak, and Mike Mancuso who would become lifelong friends.

At an early age, Steve’s family purchased land in in Montalba, TX where the family hand-built a cabin in the east Texas piney woods. Throughout his life, this was one of Steve’s favorite places to spend time. It was there that Steve began developing a profound appreciation for the outdoors, which would blossom into a love of nature, hunting, and fishing. Mentored by his mother, it was there that he also learned to identify plants, recognize bird calls, and track deer through the forest.

In 1980, Steve married Keri Dawne Rogers Rosen in Houston, TX. Shortly thereafter, he purchased his first bike, a candy apple red Harley Davidson Sportster. His hobby grew and before long Steve had a garage filled with motorcycles, dirt bikes, and three-wheelers which he and Keri used to travel the state of Texas exploring historic landmarks and the great outdoors. When Keri became pregnant, Steve set aside this passion to prepare for a growing family.

Steve’s first child, Avery Dawson Rosen, died tragically at 6 months old. Within the next few years, Steve welcomed three additional children into the world – Adam, Tyler, and Jessica. Steve was a loving father, never missing an opportunity to nurture and inspire. He bonded with his family over shared hobbies – baseball, gaming, nature, music, and beer to name a few. Steve’s highlight family vacation was a trip to Hawai’i where he snorkeled in the Pacific with sharks.

Steven made many friends throughout his life, whether through school as a child or work as an adult. When he made friends, he made them for life and considered them family – and there was nothing that Steve wouldn’t do for his family. When someone Steve cared about needed him, he would drop everything to be there. He was devoted to making sure that his family had the best.

Steve was preceded in death by his father Atwood Avery Rosen, his mother Hilda Marie Rosen, and his son Avery Dawson Rosen. He is survived by his wife, Keri Dawne Rosen, his children Adam Ryan Rosen, Tyler Martin Rosen, and Jessica Grace Rosen Triana and her husband Derek Triana, his siblings Jerald Wayne Rosen, Mary Beth Brown, and Walton David Rosen, and his countless friends and extended family.

Steve will be remembered for a lot of things – for his sense of humor and hearty laugh, for his love of the world around him, for his dedication to his family, for being a friend.

There will be a small graveside service for Steve at Woodlawn Funeral Home & Cemetery in Houston, TX on Saturday February 24, 2018 at 11:00am, followed by a celebration of Steve’s life at the Rosen family home after the service.
