Obituary for Katherine Ann "Kathy" Caywood (Dever)
Funeral services for Katherine Caywood, 69, of Capitan, NM will be at 2:00 PM, Sat., Mar. 3, 2018 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Rev. David Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Sean Chappell, Rick Ledbetter, Jayson Lang, Trapper Smith, Trey Tucker, Blake Tucker, Preston Tucker and Jerrod Copeland serving as pallbearers. All other family member and friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Katherine Ann Caywood, known to family and friends as "Kathy," was born April 6, 1948 in Portales, NM to the home of Una Lee (McGinty) and Marvin Elige Dever, and died early Monday morning, Feb. 26, 2018 at her home in Capitan, NM. On Feb. 4, 1966 in Clovis, she was married to Joseph Caywood. For much of their married life, they made their home in California. During that time she had worked as a bank teller, and later as a bookkeeper for a department store. Eventually, she became the Supervisor of Admissions at the Ventura County Community Memorial Hospital Emergency Room. In 2005, she and her husband moved to Capitan to make their home. For the past several years, Mrs. Caywood was disabled due to various health conditions. She enjoyed doing craft projects. She had a talent for taking simple and inexpensive things and putting them together in very attractive ways.
She is survived by Joe, her husband of more than 52 years, of their home; a son, Connor Caywood of the home; two daughters, and a son-in-law, Tamara Caywood of Capitan and Raina and William Tucker of Ventura, CA; five grandchildren, Brittany (T.J.) Elsey, Blake Tucker, Preston Tucker, Krystle (Trapper) Smith, and Sean (DaLana) Chappell; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Dub Dever of Portales; and three sisters, Elizabeth Morrison of LaPorte, TX, Billie Wells of Portales and Mattielene Hamilton of Shore Acres, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Leroy, Alvin, Carl and Jerome Dever, a sister, Marlene Shrock and by an infant daughter, Chandra Caywood.
