Condolence: I am so sorry to learn of Evans' passing. As with Mark Asbury, I'm a Nigeria Haus (Nashville) alumnus. One collection of indelible memories comes to mind now: His bedroom had double doors which opened onto the main room downstairs. It always seemed he was either absorbing erudition and imagery, or holding court--his intelligence, charm and wit inspiring and provoking our cast of characters. There was no one at all like him.

Condolence: I am so shocked and saddened by this news. Evans was always one of my favorite people: the charming southern rogue act; endlessly entertaining; sharp has a tack; a very distinct personal style. Evans did casual cool better than anyone, and he was a role model for me in that area that I did not come close to living up to. I shared a house (more precisely, a Nigeria Haus) with Evans and some other brilliant nut cases during his senior year at Vanderbilt, and to this day that year stands out for the quality of the company and the experiences. Evans was a huge part of that, trying diligently, generously, but ultimately unsuccessfully to bestow some of his cool upon me, and I will miss him. The world will be less without him.

Condolence: I was devastated to hear the news! I was fortunate to get to visit Evans this August when he kindly hosted me at his yacht club. Although i had not seen him for many years, we picked up right where we left off. I could always listen to Evans for hours on end and never get bored.

I will always regret breaking his model of the USS Enterprise in kindergarten.

I will miss you my friend.

Condolence: Dearest Jill,

Leah Rosch sent me news of your loss, and I'd really like to say something wonderful, or at the very least, helpful, but my own experience tells me that there are no words for this moment. I'm just so terribly, terribly sorry.
I know that you and your boys will find your way through it eventually, I know that the boys will be there for you, too. And while I wish I could tell you that time heals the pain, it doesn't. What you'll take away from all those years, however, are the loving, funny, sad/happy, ordinary and unexpected memories, and those are what count.

Let's have lunch in a little while when your life settles down. I'll be back to you very soon to make that date.
Much love to you all.
Carol

Condolence: To Evans' Family,

I am so sorry for your loss. I was an architecture school classmate of Evans and have the fondest memories of him. Evans was a couple years older than those of us who went to grad school but he seemed many years more sophisticated. He had such a wry, intelligent sense of humor and for me he kept very stressful times more tolerable. I recall a great debater who would say things like "we're going to have to put you on a reading regimen Arthur..." to stress our lack of comprehension of a certain issue :). I am sorry I can't make it back this weekend but know he is remembered in his classmates hearts as a wonderful person. Take care.
