Beverly ‘Bev’ D. Lewis, 87 yrs, a longtime Montrose resident, passed away on March 1, 2018. She was born in Peekskill on October 6, 1930 to Alfred R. and Eleanor Fern Tompkins Haight. Bev graduated from HHHS and then attended nursing school in Danville, VA, where she received her RN. On January 21, 1956, Beverly D. Haight married Robert J. Lewis, Jr. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Verplanck, NY. She was an OR Nurse at Peekskill Community Hospital, now NYP Hudson Valley Hospital. Bev was a substitute school nurse at District 3 Hendrick Hudson Schools. She was a Literacy Volunteer in White Plains and worked at Opengate in Somers. She also was a counselor for people who needed help with alcohol and drug addition. Robert ‘Bob’ and Bev loved boating with their family and she was an active member of the Peekskill Yacht Club Ladies Auxiliary and president in 1976. Bev is survived by her husband or 62 years, Robert, 5 children; sons, Farrell (Geraldine) Lewis and Rob Lewis (Carol Lynch), and 3 daughters, Diane Nathan (Rusty Mayo), April (Eric) Haight and Holly(Steve) Kouvo, 5 grandchildren: Erin Nathan, Mathew Nathan, Amber Lewis-Dossantos, Merisa Kouvo and Jessica Kouvo, 5 great grandchildren: Fern, Tallen, Jace, Robbie and Elizabeth. She is also survived by her brother, Alfred Sonner Haight. Her brothers, Greg and Grant Haight, predeceased her. The family will receive friends at the E.O. CURRY FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday, March 6th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church; 240 11th Street; Verplanck on Wednesday, March 7th at 100:00 AM, followed by interment at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Broadway, Verplanck. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Association; Hudson Valley/Rockland/Westchester, NY Chapter; 785 Mamaroneck Avenue; White Plains, NY 10605-2523, will be appreciated by the family.
