Floyd Eugene Slane, Sr., 82, known by most as “Pink,” born April 15, 1935 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas and went home to be with Jesus on March 1, 2018 at his home on East Fork Road in Wood River Valley, Idaho.

Born with distinctive red hair to parents Floyd and Elizabeth Slane, he was their fourth child and only boy.

Pink led an active life that began in Arkansas and at a young age moved with his family to Idaho. Always a hard worker he began as a boy by selling newspapers and produce and soon after began working at farm labor. Some of the jobs he performed included potato harvesting, loading trucks, bucking hay, truck driving, delivering fuel, and selling insurance. Always learning and aspiring he became a telecommunications lineman and then a high voltage lineman. Subsequently, he became a licensed electrician and soon after an electrical contractor.

No matter how he got the nickname, he was known far and wide as “Pink.”

In Burley, Idaho he met the love of his life Muriel and they were married in 1955 . They had three children together; Floyd Jr., Meredi, and Bert

He served as a reserve in the Idaho National Guard during the Korean War and received his basic training in Fort Chaffee, Arkansas.

In about 1963, while working for Lott Electric, he was assigned the Wood River Valley region. A short time later, he purchased the WR Valley branch, changed the name to Pink’s Electric, and moved his family to the valley.

While living in the Wood River Valley he developed and pursued many interests
and activities which included (but not limited to); fitness, gymnastics, racket ball, fishing, hunting, photography, trap shooting, hiking, horseback riding, motorcycles, four-wheeling, karate, weight lifting, gold prospecting, and oil and mineral explorations.

Some of the things Pink touched, inspired, or was known for in the Wood River Valley; “Pink’s Ponders” that was featured in the Wood River Journal in the 1970’s, “Pink’s Specials” breakfast menu item at the Colonel’s Pancake House in Ketchum. He was a frequent member of the Western Café coffee club. He was known to hike Bald Mountain from the bottom to the top on a regular basis. Went on ride-alongs and lifted weights with some of the local Ketchum police. Shot trap at Sun Valley Gun Club and was a member of the Sun Valley Four-wheel Drive Club.

Pink was the utmost honest, kind, generous, fair, and gentle Christian man to his wife, children, friends, business associates, employees, and strangers alike. He walked the love walk of Christ, treating others as he would like to be treated. He held close his faith in God and shared it openly with everyone he encountered. His first course of action in any situation was to pray. He was known to stop and pray with any person in need regardless of the location or situation. Often times people would come to Pink’s place of business knowing that he would take time out to pray with them. He generously gave to any person in need whether it was money, a hot meal, or warm clothes, he endeavored to meet the need. Pink received joy in giving. Straight from his heart, he gave everything from cars to candy bars. He always carried spare hats and gloves in his vehicle, in case he encountered someone in need. Pink conducted his business the same way he lived his life, with Jesus first, with integrity, honesty, generosity, love and forgiveness.

He stayed active and busy until his health no longer allowed him to continue.

Pink would want us to make sure to honor his memory by giving everyone his solemn words of advice; “Remember to keep Jesus first.”

Pink is survived by his three children: Floyd Jr, Meredi (Bob), Bert (Gina).
His six grandchildren and their children: Mark (Jill) Nelson with sons Isaiah and Preston; Paul Nelson; Emily Slane; Lauren (Ron) Henderson with sons Zane and Graham; Matthew (Allie) Slane; Amanda (Jason) Slane with daughter Skyla
His sister Virginia “Ginger” Hannah, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Muriel Mae Slane, his parents Floyd and Elizabeth, and two sisters Leota and Lela.
