Obituary for Lynnis Kay Beem
Lynnis Kay Beem was born on October 13, 1942 in Pine Ridge, SD to Philip and Ester (Yellow Hair) Marshall. Lynnis made her journey to the Spirit World on March 1, 2018 at the Rapid City Regional Hospice House in Rapid City, SD.
Lynnis attended boarding school in Pine Ridge, SD and gradated high school from the Bennett County High School in Martin, SD. Lynnis started working at the age of 12 at the Home Café in Martin, SD; she also worked a number of years for the Headstart Program in Pine Ridge and Porcupine. Lynnis married Arnold Beem on January 6, 1963 in Gordon, NE and to this union three children were born, Richard, Babe, and Patrick.
Lynnis loved to sew, garden, and watch Wheel of Fortune; she was also a strong supporter for saving the buffalo and starting a buffalo herd within the entire United States. Lynnis finished her working career working for the Intertribal Bison Co-op.
Lynnis is survived by her spouse, Arnold Beem of Rapid City, SD; children, Babe Olson of White Clay, NE and Patrick Beem of Rapid City, SD; siblings, Avril (Jim) Livermont of Wanblee, SD and Marvin (Valerie) Marshall of Madison, SD; grandchildren, Katie Beem of Blackhawk, SD, Owen Olson of Martin, SD, Whitney Fear of Glyndon, MN, Kalen Cummings of Sturgis, SD, and Kiara Jackson of Rapid City, SD; great grandchildren, Katelyn Olson of Martin, SD, Bella Fear and Remy Fear both of Glyndon, MN, and Emery Lynn Martin of Blackhawk, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lynnis was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Ester Marshall; son, Richard Beem; siblings, Louise Stoefen, Thomas Marshall, Darwin Marshall, Charlotte Anderson, William Marshall, Clifford Marshall, and Carol Standing Bear;and niece, Leann Livermont.
Funeral Services: Visitation will be from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM, Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Rapid City, SD with funeral services starting at 1:00 PM.
Memorial Services: 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Activity Center in Martin, SD
Officiating: Rev. Harold Marshall and Pastor Douglas Free
Burial Services: Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Martin City Cemetery, Martin, SD
