Obituary for Katherine "Kay" Caruso

Katherine "Kay" Caruso
Millinocket - Katherine "Kay" Caruso, beloved sister and aunt, passed away at her home on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at the grand age of 92. Kay was born in Millinocket, Maine, the daughter of Pasquale and Mary Caruso of Little Italy on November 22, 1925. She was a graduate of Stearns High School and a longtime employee of O.S. Gonya and the Dead River Company.
Fiercely independent, Kay lived her life on her own terms. She was devoted to her family, first and foremost, and cared for her parents in their later years. Although never married, she was the favorite aunt and considered her nieces and nephews as her own children. She was the hub of the Caruso family, knowing a little bit about everyone’s new jobs, new homes, and new babies.
Kay loved cribbage, dominoes, gambling at Hollywood Slots, crossword puzzles, and her number one favorite pastime: Beano! She was known for her Italian cooking especially her famous meatballs, raviolis, and cannoli. She delighted in hosting Sunday morning breakfasts for her entire extended family. She was a faithful volunteer for Meals for Me for many years.
She was predeceased by her father Pasquale Caruso, mother Mary, brother Rosario, brother James ("Buff"), brother Francis ("Punk"), and nephew Scott Osgood. She is survived by her sister Mary ("Gally") and brother-in-law Richard Osgood whom she dearly loved as well as many nieces, nephews, and her most recent great-great niece, Everly Scott.
A devout Catholic, she was a communicant of St. Martin of Tours Parish and a member of the Daughters of Isabella. Our Aunt Kay loved her lifelong home, her Little Italy heritage, and her community. She was an inspiration and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 19, at 12:00 noon at the Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Kay may be sent to the Katahdin Area Support Group, P.O. Box 374, Millinocket, ME 04462. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket.
