Obituary for Mr. Willie Lee Caldwell Sr.

The sun rose on the life of Mr. Willie Lee Caldwell, Sr. on July 20, 1961 in Denver, Colorado when he was born to Press Caldwell, Jr. and Ozell Marie Caldwell. One of ten children, Willie had eight brothers, Carl, Otis, James, Robert, Glen, Wayne, Dwayne and Dwight and one sister, Sandra. Educated in the public school system, Willie graduated from Manual High School in Denver.

On August 28, 1993, Willie was united in marriage with Aircause Black whom he met through mutual friends. The couple frequently had family gatherings including all of his friends and children. He was the loving father of five children, Brandon, Willie, Jr., Aviance, Chantelle and Tamika. His grandchildren, Elijah Lee, Londyn, Jaiden, Paige, Layla and Anthony, Jr. were a source of great delight in his life. They remember “Papa” helping them with their homework and giving them snacks. He loved them dearly as they loved him.

True to his love for children, Willie was a member of the Eastside Pop Patrol all of his life. He was affectionately known as “Sir Pop”. He enjoyed family, friends, dancing and “Poplockin”. He most loved listening to blues and R&B music. Family was very important to Willie and he made sure he “brought his family back together again”. This funny, helpful and nurturing man was greatly loved by all who were fortunate to have shared a part of his life. To know Willie was truly to love him.

The sun set on the life of Mr. Willie Lee Caldwell, Sr. on February 27, 2018 when he passed into eternal rest.
He is preceded in death by his mother and brothers, Otis and Glen. Those left to cherish his memory include his father, Preston Caldwell of Shreveport, LA; sons, Branden (Lucia) Roberson of Denver, CO and Willie Caldwell, Jr. of Denver, CO; daughters, Chantelle Roberson of Denver, CO and Tamika (Anthony) Norvell of Aurora, CO; six grandchildren, six brothers and one sister and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Rest in peace Willie
