Paul T. Schatz, 88, passed away on March 4, 2018, in Stillwater, OK. A Rosary is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the new St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, located at 711 N. Country Club Road in Stillwater. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00pm on Monday, March 12, 2018 at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Stillwater, OK. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Paul was born on May 9, 1929, to Ted and Alice (Carpenter) Schatz, in Stillwater, OK. He attended St. Francis School and later graduated from Stillwater High School. In October of 1950, he took the hand of Juanita Bartram, in Little Rock, Arkansas. They enjoyed 69 years together. In 1951, Paul was drafted and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After Korea, he and Juanita lived in El Paso for ten years. Juanita did not want her children raised in a border city, so they moved back to Stillwater. Paul attended Oklahoma A and M and studied forestry. He loved land and trees his entire life. As a child, he spent a lot of time with his grandparents out on the farm in rural Payne County, learning about farm life and life in general from a grandmother who had entered the United States through Ellis Island at the age of 16. Paul later bought a farm north of Ripley where he built two big ponds and made it into a place where many family reunions were held and where children and grandchildren spent weekends fishing and making memories.
Paul followed his family working in the painting and decorating business for awhile. He later became an auto supplies salesman where he traveled and provided parts and services to countless service stations and garages in Stillwater and throughout Central Oklahoma for 52 years. Paul was a lifelong parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mike Schatz; one sister, Pauline Schatz-Cox; and one brother, Merton Schatz.
Paul is survived by his wife of 69 years; sons, Larry and Kip (LynDee); daughters, Dinah (Tommy) Hardy, Kim Wade, and Dina (John) Comonis; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Patricia Harr of San Francisco, CA; many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Woody Jenkins, Dr. John Williams, Dr. Randall Willis, the staff of Westhaven Nursing Home and the staff of Physicians Choice Hospice.
