Obituary for Autumn Maurita Griffith

Autumn Maurita Griffith
Autumn Maurita Griffith, 94, left to greet her Lord during a beautiful
snowstorm on the morning of March 1, 2018. If you knew Autumn, that means that
you were offered a cup of tea in a real china teacup, a warm meal served on a
100-year-old oak table, and a hug, whether you deserved it or not. We rejoice
with her as she is surely riding through heaven on a fast horse, although we
will all miss her terribly. Autumn was born on October 9, 1923, in Selah, WA.
She graduated from high school in Wenatchee, WA, and worked for Ireland’s
restaurant, the Navy shipyards during WWII, the apple packing sheds, and as
resident angel of mercy at Camas Meadows Bible Camp, which she founded in 1973
with her husband, Del. Autumn started keeping house for her widowed father at
the age of ten and never quit. She transferred her many talents to the love
and care of Delbert Elmer Griffith when they married on July 25, 1942, and to
their four children (Terry, Sharon, Clint, and Greg) as they came along. A
born hostess, she continued to offer snacks and treats to her 11
grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren,
even after she couldn’t walk to the kitchen to prepare them.

Autumn enjoyed horseback riding, hiking, shooting, wildflowers, and
overfeeding anyone who ventured into the warmth of their handcrafted log home.
She was a gifted storyteller and kept both adults and children enthralled,
with tea in hand of course, as she told tales of bygone days. That time she
decorated a tumble weed instead of a Christmas tree, how she raced her dad’s
plow horses, making them unreliable in the harness, and of course the time she
was charged by a grizzly bear but managed to slowly back away and step behind
a tree while he thumped the ground with his paws and huffed out a warning.
Autumn added half-n-half to her cocoa, heavy cream to her homemade cinnamon
toast, and a warm smile to even the darkest of days.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Georgia Harmon; as well as
three sisters; two brothers; and her youngest son, Greg. She leaves behind her
husband of 75-plus happy years, Delbert Griffith; son, Terry Griffith;
daughter, Sharon Sines; and son, Clint Griffith; along with all those grand,
great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, March 8, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., at
Telford’s Chapel of the Valley, 302 Ninth St., Wenatchee, WA. The family will
be greeting friends and relatives at Camas Meadows Bible Camp (on Griffith
Rd.), Cashmere, WA, at 5:00 p.m. that evening for a potluck get-together.
Burial will follow the funeral at Evergreen Cemetery in East Wenachee, WA. In
lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Camas
Meadows Bible Camp, P.O. Box 304, Cashmere, WA, 98815.
