Richard W. Benson, Sr., age 71, of Columbus, passed away March 5, 2018. Richard Sr. was born on November 6, 1946 in San Antonio, TX. He served in the US Army and Ohio National Guard for 10 years. While enlisted, Specialist Benson worked as a Radio Teletype Operator. In 1969, he married the former Delores Griffin and from this union they have one son, Richard W. Benson, Jr. After retiring from the military he worked for several companies including Buckeye Steele, Borden Burger, and the Wonder Bread Company for 28 years. He retired from Wonder Bread in 2006. In 1978, he earned a BS in Business Administration from Franklin University. Richard was a loving, caring, faithful, and selfless man who loved the Lord. He and his lovely wife, Delores, were proud members of Hosack Street Baptist Church. He will truly be missed. He is preceded in death by his parents Edker and Loma Benson, his brothers, Bobby Joe Benson, Leonard Benson, and Robert Calvin Benson, his sisters, Clara Benson, Clotean Benson, and Linda Benson, and dear cousin Benny L. Nious. He is survived by his beautiful wife, Delores, proud son Richard Jr. (Camille), sweet grandchildren, Brittany, Brandy and Richard III, Rylan Younger, Zayla Younger, and Averi Satterwhite, great-grandchildren, Jaida and Jaidyn, Barbara Benson (mother of Brittany, Brandy, and Richard III), his brothers Edgar Benson and Jeroyl (Melanie) Benson, sisters Olivia Robinson, and Louise (Willie) Duun, brother-in-laws, Fred (Linda) Griffin, Carlton (Frankie) Griffin, Darryl (Patricia) Griffin, sister-in-laws, Darcel McGuire, Diane (Ronald) Bolden, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, March 15, 2018 beginning at 11 a.m. until time of the celebration of life service at 12 p.m. at Hosack Street Baptist Church, 1160 Watkins Rd, Columbus, Ohio 43207. Dr. Jonathan Morehead officiating. Interment to follow at Franklin Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
