Kay died peacefully with family at her side on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the age of 82 years old. Kay was born February 25, 1936 in Gronlid, Saskatchewan to John and Nettie Ilnisky. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Gronlid. She worked at the Gronlid Hotel after high school. Kay married Theodore (Ted) Kadachuk in September of 1954 and they were blessed with two children, Sharon Lynn and Thomas Theodore. Kay was a hard worker, and once her kids were grown, she spent the majority of her working years driving in from Gronlid to work at the Melfort Hospital in the housekeeping department. She took great pride in her job there and made many good friends. Kay was a member of the Gronlid Willing Workers and held several different positions on the executive. She was a committed person and wrote the Gronlid News for the Melfort Journal for over 25 years. Kay loved to garden and always had plenty of produce for seasonal dishes including borscht, beetniks and potatoes with cream dill sauce. Kay enjoyed travelling with McConaghy Tours, visiting with friends, doing day trips to shop and visit the casino, baking her families favourite treats, and preparing traditional Ukrainian dishes. Every summer Ted and Kay, welcomed family from near and far to come and camp at the farm for a weekend of fun, food and plenty of memories. Ted and Kay moved to Melfort in October, 1996. The United Church became an important part of her life and she enjoyed going to church on Sundays. She also joined the Royal Purple and was an active member for several years. The simple things in life were of utmost importance to Kay and she always had time for a cup of coffee and a visit.
Kay will be remembered by her son Tom (Tekla) Kadachuk, grandsons Brandon and Nolan Kadachuk, son-in-law Doug Walsh, grandchildren Courtney (Vince) Mack and Kyle Walsh, her special nieces Judy (Marsh) Erskine, Cathie (Ward) Aasen and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Theodore (Ted) Kadachuk, her daughter Sharon Walsh, her parents John and Nettie Ilnisky, her sisters, Annie Zazelenchuk, Mary Scott, Linda Moreau, and Sonia Wright, her brothers Bill Ilnisky, Pete Ilnisky, and Steve Ilnisky along with numerous other family members.
