Obituary for Calvin Shamblin

Calvin Shamblin
Calvin Shamblin, 80, of Webbers Falls, died Friday April 6, 2018 at the Gore Nursing Home.

Calvin was born April 30, 1937 in Webbers Falls, the son of Joel and Rena Shamblin. Growing up Calvin became a farmer at a young age. He had a large family to take care of while a young man. He was married on May 22, 1954 at the age of 17 in Sallisaw to Jonnie Blackwell and they began their wonderful life together. He had been married for 63 years to his childhood sweetheart. They made their home in Wichita, KS for 15 years while he worked at Southwest Grease and Oil Company, traveling back and forth to Oklahoma to be with family.

Eventually the family moved back to Webbers Falls in 1970. He was ready to get back to the country life and wanted his children to learn the country way of living. He picked right back up doing what he loved while growing up, farming, raising cattle and growing gardens. Along with the work of the farm he also went into the concrete business, driving concrete trucks and then finishing concrete. He worked from daylight til after dark for many years until his health would not allow it anymore. It still never stopped him from wanting to try.

He loved his family and worked hard to provide for them. Calvin was a very unique and wonderful man, he had the bluest eyes and a beautiful smile. He was loved and respected by so many. Everyone knew him as one of the best concrete finishers around.

Calvin is survived by his wife Jonnie of the home; three sons, Calvin Dean Shamblin and wife Rita of Muskogee, Gary Lee Shamblin and wife Gail of Webbers Falls and Gregory Neil Shamblin and wife Lola of Webbers Falls; one daughter Edith Elaine Wallace and husband Phill of Warner; eight grandchildren, Gary Lee Shamblin of Connecticut, William Shamblin and wife Kari, of Oklahoma City, Jetta Jacobs of Webbers Falls, Davin Shamblin of Muskogee, Lacy Shamblin of Muskogee, Emily Ogg and husband Bobby of Webbers Falls, Evan Wallace and wife Jaide of Warner and Laramie Shamblin of Webbers Falls; four brothers, Ray Shamblin and wife Debbie of Webbers Falls, John Shamblin and wife Ester of Morris, Wayne Shamblin of Porum, and Charley Shamblin and wife Marcie of Webbers Falls; three sisters, Evelyne Fleming of Wichita, KS, Ruth Hyslope of Webbers Falls and Pauline Rainey of Webber Falls and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
