Papa

My papa was a man I loved, respected, and admired most in my life. It seemed as if he could build or fix anything from our toys, to our homes, to our family. I'll always remember him outside fixing up the house, or downstairs building his train set. A few days after he passed away, I was sitting outside on the deck where he always used to sit, and I looked around his home- the house he helped fix after they bought it, the flags he put up, the grape vine he made, the little face on the tree outside the house he made; he wrote our names in the cement and put a quarter next to them in the driveway. Even though he is gone, there are pieces of him all over our home.

I'll always remember when I was little, my cousin Larissa and I used to go with our grandma to pick him up at the train station in Queens. We would hide behind the seat and surprise him, and we actually believed him when he pretended he didn't see us. Thursday was candy day. He always used to take us to the candy store and get us candy.

He brought so much culture and tradition into our family: Pasta-every Thursday and Sunday. Macaroni and Anipasta on holidays, hearing him speak Italian to his parents and cousins in Italy, and music- listeing to the Italian Party House on AM radio on Sunday morning.

I've had so many great memories from the past 30 years and I wish I could have many more, but I know you are watching down on us. I can't put into words how much I'm going to miss you. I love you, papa.
