Obituary for Nadine Virginia Turner

Nadine Virginia Turner
Nadine Virginia Turner returned home to her Lord and the love of her life, Charlie Turner, early Sunday, April 22, 2018, at the Avalon Memory Care Center in Arlington, Texas.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 26, at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Interment: Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington.
Memorials: Cook Children’s Hospital, Ft. Worth.
Nadine was born in Fredonia, Kansas, on October 20, 1923, to Claire and Floyd Wickman. Growing up as a child of the Great Depression, she traveled with her family in a makeshift home built on the back of an old truck while they looked for whatever work they could find. She eventually made her way to Oregon along with her mother. Growing up as a young girl and working at a shipyard as one of the original ‘Rosie the Riveters’, she met a paratrooper on leave from the 101st Airborne, married him, moved to Texas with her lifelong love, Charlie Turner, and never looked back.
While raising four kids, she began taking care of other children and expanded her babysitting business into Nadine’s Playmate Nursery in Arlington which ultimately included a Grand Prairie school. For over twenty years hundreds of children were cared for by Nadine and her staff which included her mother, ‘Mama Claire.’
Following her husband’s death, her work ethic brought her back from retirement because ‘she wasn’t done.’ While working at various ladies fashion stores, she exercised her employee discounts until her clothes racks were as extensive as those for whom she worked. But by far, her favorite post-retirement job was at the Baseball Diamonds jewelry store at the Ballpark in Arlington where she was saleswoman/hostess/and Mom to new found friends like Pudge Rodriquez, Nolan Ryan, Troy Aikman, Benji Gil, John Wetteland, Jackie Moore, Johnny Oates, Jamie Adams, and many others. She proudly displayed the Ranger jersey she received on her 90th birthday party signed ‘Happy Birthday Nadine’ by Nolan and Pudge.
Nadine loved her Lord and family. We’ll miss her, but Jesus has a great new angel.

Nadine was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Turner; her brother, Don Wickman; her mother, Claire Knowles; and stepfather, Russ Knowles.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Avalon Memory Care Center and to All Star Hospice for their combined care, love, and compassion extended to both Nadine and her family.
Survivors: She is survived by her son, Charlie Turner and wife Melody; her son, Randy Turner; her daughter, Tanya Tilotta and husband Mike; her daughter, Shawna Ruegg and husband Bob; and daughter-in-law, Genemarie Peck and husband Brad; grandchildren - Neil Turner; Stevie and Eric Bubeck; Ryan and Sarah Tilotta; Dalton and Angela Waldrop; Rhett Tilotta and Autumn Ratliff; Taylor Rhea; Lauren and Jon Beadles; Elise Ruegg; Michelle and David Sharff; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
