Obituary for Grace C. Trella

Grace C. Trella
Grace (Costello) Trella, 95, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 23, 2018 at MidState Medical Center. She was formally a resident of Cromwell and Middletown. Born in South Meriden, Connecticut on July 3, 1922, she was the sixth child of the late John P. and Margaret (Cahill) Costello. She graduated from Meriden High School in 1941 and worked at New Departure and Metropolitan Insurance Company in Meriden and was an Assistant Tax Collector in Cromwell until her retirement in 1990.
Grace was the loving matriarch of the family. She was a member of St. Pius X Church in Middletown. Her hobbies included painting, reading, and playing cards. She loved to keep active and took walks greeting people with her infectious smile. Grace was an animal lover and had several pets over the years, including her collie named Bonnie. She held a special bond with her oldest brother Jim. She taught her daughter how to bake. Grace's legacy included a strong love for family and being there to help others.
Grace is survived by her children Thomas J. Trella and his wife Kimberly and Susan (Trella) Ferkol and her husband Gregory as well as her grandchildren Devin and Elena Trella, Hannah and Stephen Ferkol. She is also survived by two nieces Cathy (Costello) Acabbo and Judith (Costello) Ginty. She is also survived by several great and great great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her five siblings; James W. Costello, Marion (Costello) Fortin, Ruth V. Costello, John M. Costello and Joseph B. Costello. She was also predeceased by her nieces Linda (Fortin) Hager and Sharon Ann Fortin.
A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden and at 11 a.m. at St. Pius X Church in Middletown for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning prior to the service from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
