Obituary for Nevada James "Vot" Lewis
Nevada James Lewis, was born on August 27, 1964 in Messongo, Virginia, to the late Theodore and Alice Harris Lewis. He went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 20, 2018.
Nevada received his education in the public schools of Accomack County and was a graduate of Arcadia High School. He worked for many years as a poultry handler at Tyson Foods, Perdue Farms, and Mountaire. He would often say he was a “Jack of all trades and master of none.”
On August 28, 1992, he entered into holy matrimony with Zelda Pettit. Nevada had a heart of gold and enjoyed providing for the ones he loved. He liked talking (and I do mean talking) to all of his kin folk, because he adored his family, many of which will miss his early morning calls that would last forever. Nevada would talk and talk until the caller couldn’t “take anymore.” Many times he would end the call with “I know you ain’t gonna call me back and I love you.” He was a passionate man and his love was never questioned.
Nevada had a sense of humor that will be remembered forever by many. He always had a smile on his face and aimed to put a smile on someone else’s. His favorite sayings included, “Hootie Hoot,” “Shuckie Duckie, Quack Quack,” and “It’s a Happy Happy, Joy Joy Moment.” Nevada loved his Colt 45, hot soup, fried white potatoes, and corn on the cob.
Nevada leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Zelda Lewis of Parksley, VA; children, Natacha Pettit of Parksley, VA, Nevada Lewis of Norfolk, VA, and Raven Lewis of Parksley, VA; grandchildren, Ny'Zarien and Ta’Shad; siblings, Yvonne Lewis of Pocomoke, MD, Claudette Lewis, Calvin Lewis, Abraham Drummond, Maurice Taylor, all of Temperanceville, VA, and Derrick Crippen of Withams, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
