Consuelo Lopez, of Kenosha, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in San Antonio, TX, on April 22nd, she was the daughter of the late Jesus and Consuelo (Lugo) Hernandez.
On July 2, 1955, she married Alipio Santiago; they later divorced. On July 28, 2001, she married Eustaquio “Tito” Lopez.
Consuelo formerly worked as a nurse’s aide, was involved with UMOS helping migrant workers in the area, the Hispanic American Center, and Kenosha Spanish Center. Most recently she was employed with Lake County. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She had her own radio program for a short period of time which played a part in helping get bi-lingual education programs into the local school system. She loved to travel and work in her garden. She and Tito also owned and operated a motel in the Wisconsin Dells for some time.
She is survived by her five children, Ed (Linda) Santiago, Tom Santiago, Rick (Judy A.) Santiago, Rosemarie (Joe) Santiago Rodgers and Eugene Santiago; four brothers, John (Carol) Hernandez, Carlos (Leslie) Hernandez, Jesse (Renee) Hernandez and Arturo Hernandez; three sisters, Elvira (George) Cridland, Mary (Miles) Ramsey and Grace Hernandez; and was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Alipio Santiago; her husband, Tito Lopez; and a sister, Helen Hernandez.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 12th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
