T.L. Griffin Sayings

I was in Mr. Griffin's Fifth Grade homeroom. He taught me math in the Fifth and Sixth Grades. He talked about his time in the Navy many times. He was a great teacher. He was a lot of fun but he was tough. I can't tell you how many times he paddled me! But one day I asked him if I could write my name on the paddle because he hit me with it so many times. He said, "Sure"!

I was noted for excessive talking. Mr. Griffin would say, "Robbie Moore, if you don't stop talking and pay attention, your math grade is gonna' be sinking like the Titanic'!

I sometimes stared out the window. He would call me Penrod, a ficticious misadventurous, 11 year-old boy written about by Booth Tarkington.

When I would be distracted, T.L. would say, "Robbie Moore, if you don't start listening to what I'm saying up here, you're gonna' be lost like a red ball in the high weeds"!

I loved it when Mr. Griffin put the highest Six Week Math Average in the class on his blackboard. In spite of my shortcomings, my name made it up there several times.

There was only one, Tom Griffin.
