Donald Ralph  Wright
Donald R. Wright, 79, of Arnoldsville, GA passed away on May 9, 2018. Don was born in Chattanooga, TN to Roy Clifford Wright and Mary Jacqueline Keith Wright on April 10, 1939. Don married Willodean Chamblee on July 4, 1961 and they celebrated 57 years of marriage.
Don was an active member of the Church of God and a faithful servant to the Lord. He was involved in various ministries within the church and served diligently until his race was won. His legacy will continue through his family and friends as he was an honorable and respected member of the communities in which he lived.
Retired U.S. Navy PR1 Donald R. Wright proudly served 20 years of military service and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. During his 20 years of military service he earned several medals including the Navy Achievement medal, Good Conduct medal, National Defense Service medal and Vietnam Service medal. Don served at various military bases in Lakehurst, NJ; Alameda, CA; San Jose, CA; Meridian, MS; Pensacola, FL; Jacksonville, FL as well as many tours of sea duty abroad.
Don is preceded in death by his father, Roy Clifford Wright, mother, Mary Jacqueline Wright and nephew David Wright.
Don is survived by his wife, Willodean Chamblee Wright; his daughters Donna Wright Pell (Lewis Pell) and Michelle Wright Norman (Tracy Norman); his six grandchildren Jayson Pell, Tyler Pell, Alaina Norman, Garrison Norman, Wesley Norman and Ryan Pell; his great-granddaughter Lynnox Pell; sisters Loretta Wright Bain, Nancy Wright Chambers, brother Jerald “Jerry” Wright along with a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews and his fur baby, Beau.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 14, 2018 from 6:00PM – 8:00PM at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, 4355 Lexington Road, Athens, GA 30605.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 with visitation staring at 9:00AM and Celebration Service start at 10:00AM at Cornerstone Church Athens, 4680 Lexington Road, Athens, GA 30605 with services officiated by Pastor Steve Snider and Pastor Dennis Chambers.
Interment will follow at Bankhead Cemetery, Mentone, AL 35984 at 4:00PM with full military honors.
