Condolence From: Maureen Blainey Collie
Condolence: Mrs. Mallette, or Aud the Bod as Kim and I would refer to her, was one of my favourite people. I loved many things about her, the way she called everyone "dear", how tender she was with Mr. Mallette, (also one of my favourite people), how she always opened her house, chocolate digestive cookies and tuna to all of us, how we could always count on seeing her at the cosmetic counter at Eaton's in Fairview Mall, and she was always smiling, always happy to have a little chat.
I have so many fond memories but one that sticks out from the others is just so quintessential Audrey that I would like to share.
John and I were visiting Montreal with our four kids and we were all sitting around in the Mallette backyard. The older kids were all swimming in the pool, the adults were sitting up on the deck. We were all watching and chatting as my youngest, Paul, who would have been about two, casually strolled right into the deep end of the pool and went under water. I screamed, jumped up, and leapt off of the deck to run and scoop him out of the water. As I was running I heard Mrs. Mallette calmly say, "It's ok Dear, they all fall into the pool at some point", and she picked her wine back up and casually took a sip. Haha, mom goals! So calm. (:
Mrs. Mallette was solid, kind, loving and generous and that is evidenced in her children and grandchildren. (:
My hope is that Mr. Mallette was waiting for her, leaning on some kitchen counter in heaven, smoking a butt, drinking a rum and coke and giving her his big grin. Together again. How lovely.
