Obituary for Dennis Oscar Sletten
Dennis Oscar Sletten, 87, of Irene, SD passed away Monday, June 11, 2018, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.
Dennis was born to Oscar and Inanda (Bak) Sletten on October 10, 1930, in rural Yankton County. He was baptized and confirmed at Meldal Lutheran Church. He completed his education at Sletten Country School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 and was stationed in Germany during most of his tour of duty.
Dennis married Marilyn Paulsen on May 16, 1954, at Spring Valley Lutheran Church. Together, they raised three children, Roxann, Roslyn and Rodney. Dennis and Marilyn farmed and raised cattle in the Center Point area. In recent years, they were enjoying retirement on their home place. He enjoyed farming, spending time with his family and especially visits from his grandchildren. He always had a joke to share when the family gathered. He served many years on the Meldal Lutheran Cemetery board.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughters, Roxann (Bob) Dangel of Freeman; and Roslyn (John) Mengenhausen of Howard; and son, Rodney (Lori) Sletten of Viborg; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren - Clint (Jolene) Dangel and family Greyson, Hayden and Harper; Jeff (Crystal) Mengenhausen and family Emma, Lily and Jaden; Amy (Ryan) Ridder; Julie (Wes) Wingen and family Bridger and Riley; Jared (Lindsey) Mengenhausen; Sara (Jordan Haar) Dangel; Chris Sletten; Adam (Kate) Sletten; Isaac (Becky Johnson) Sletten; and Jemima Sletten; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Janice and Cliff Adkins, Detroit Lakes, MN, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Inanda Sletten; brother, Carrol Sletten; sister Mildred Jensen; brothers-in-law Robert Jensen and Owen Noteboom; sister-in-law Dianne Christensen; father and mother-in-law, Royal and Fern Paulsen.
