The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Ralph Vitale can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Condolence From: Karen Krukowski Harvey
Condolence: To Regina and family, I was a Spanish teacher at Old Greenwich with Ralph. Do you remember you and Ralph connected me with Uwe? I was impressed with what a wonderful family you are and how kind. Good for you for the strength and support you were able to give during Ralph's illness. Very tough for a man whose very name means "vital". Looks like his rays of sunshine and noble character have reached around the planet. May you now continue this legacy. Love, Karen

Condolence: While I did not know Coach Vitale, I was the fortunate recipient of his retirement from GHS Boys Varsity Soccer in 2001, when I took over the program he helped build. Told through the stories of the players that inherited from Ralph, I know he demanded integrity, honesty, hard work and self discipline from his players with a burning passion for competition and winning. Coach, since then I have simply tried to carry on what you instilled in your players - a love for the game, respect for each other and to reach true potential. May you rest in peace and know that the program you left will continue to move forward in your memory.
Coach Putnam

Condolence: I’m so very sorry for your loss. So many of my childhood sports memories include Mr. V- as we always called him. I went to Riverside School and played for Mr Kuhlman’s soccer and gymnastics teams & we would compete against Mr. V. & Old Greenwich Scool.. Mr. V. Also coached my jr high gymnastics team at Eastern and he would spot us on tumbling stunts and dismounts for hours every day during the season- we would beg “one more time” so we could perfect the skill. Later on in his career, he was a teaching colleague of my mother’s at Central Middle School- and I know how much the kids loved him. He was a great coach and a wonderful person. I know how much he will be missed. Peace and prayers 💕

Condolence: Always "Mr. Vitale" to our family! He taught all three of our children at Old Greenwich School, during the late 70's and 80's. His booming voice made them work hard, but it was his warm manner and sense of humor that made us all love him. He clearly loved his job and all the mayhem that came with it. A good, good man and a great teacher.

Condolence: What a terrific guy. He took over at Central JHS forTom Smith, a world war II Marine and Orange Bowl lineman for PA ST. Not many people could fill those shoes. But Ralph did. He was a great soccer coach at GHS. A giant among men. RIP
