Palmer L  Erickson
Palmer L. Erickson of Irene passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Irene.
Palmer L. Erickson was born December 12, 1921 to Paul E. and Hilma (Moberg) Erickson in rural Union County. His mother passed away when he was very young. He made his home with his grandparents Anna & Axel Husby.
He was baptized in Roseni Lutheran Church and confirmed in Beresford Lutheran Church. He attended Lindberg School, rural Volin thru 4th grade. He graduated from 8th grade in Beresford, SD. They moved back to Irene and he graduated from Irene High School in 1941.
He joined the US Navy in 1942 and served for 3 ½ years, some time was spent overseas.
Palmer married Janice Hevle in 1948 at Trondhjem Lutheran Church, rural Volin, SD. They lived in Irene where they owned and operated Erick’s Café for several years. He worked mostly in painting & construction for many years. He was also in the hardware business.
He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and Hall Thompson Post #193 in Irene.
Palmer enjoyed fishing & Woodworking in his shop, cutting wood for his wood burner. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Janice, daughters June Gompf of Bethany OK, Joan (Joe) Zilla of Mitchell, SD, two sons Paul (Pam) Erickson, Daryl Erickson both of Irene. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, a brother Jerome (Mary) Erickson of Alcester, SD.
