Obituary for Bill Glenn Pinkerton

Bill Glenn Pinkerton
Bill Pinkerton, 69, of Eureka, Texas, passed away on July 6, 2018 after a brief battle with cancer. He was son of the late A J Pinkerton and Lillie Wright and was born on April 30, 1949 in Riverside, California. The Air Force family later moved to Plattsburgh, New York with stepfather Dale Mahan and then Burns Flat, Oklahoma before settling in Fort Worth, Texas. Bill graduated from Amon Carter Riverside High School in Fort Worth and then received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington.

While at UTA, he met and married his wife, Virginia Gail Rawlings, and then had three children. Together, they moved to Kennedale, Texas where they made a home for almost 30 years. He had a fulfilling 40 year career as a Materials Engineer for Vought Aircraft where he worked on numerous projects ranging from the Space Shuttle to the B2 Stealth Bomber before retiring in 2012. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jay Surratt and then Virginia after 42 wonderful years of marriage.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman who loved running, cycling, hunting, fishing, camping and hiking in addition to fast cars, baseball, travel, technology and photography. He spent many years as a volunteer with the Longhorn Council of the Boy Scouts of America, working with various groups including Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Explorers, and Wood Badge adult leader training.

In 2013, God’s abounding grace led Bill to meet Marilyn Mitchell of Eureka, Texas. They started a new life together where he found great happiness and fulfilling friendships. At their Overlook Ranch, he tried his hand as a small-time cattle rancher and thoroughly enjoyed being grandpa to two sets of grandchildren while serving the community as a member of Mildred Baptist Church.
Above all, Bill dearly loved his family, his friends and his community. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Marilyn Pinkerton of Eureka, Texas and his three children: Shari Stephens of Durant, Oklahoma, Michael Pinkerton and wife Beverly of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Karen Ryan and husband Michael of Benbrook, Texas; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; stepfather, Dale Mahan of Aurora, Colorado; sister, Patricia Gotori of Aurora, Colorado; brother, K. David Pinkerton of Gunnison, Colorado. He is also survived by his three stepchildren and their spouses; eleven step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren, who lovingly welcomed him into their lives.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Mildred Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Neal officiating.
Those desiring to do so may make memorial contributions to the Longhorn Council of the Boy Scouts of America at P.O. Box 54190, Hurst, Texas 76050-4190 or at www.donations.scouting.org/#1council/662.
