Obituary for Thomas H. ""Tom"" Conger




Thomas (Tom)  H. Conger,73 of  Cortland, died Friday, July 13, 2018 at Hospicare in Ithaca, NY. 

Born August 8, 1944 in Cortland, NY, he was the son of the late Hart E. and Dorthea M. Waldron Conger.  '

Having lived in the area for most of his life, he had served his country during the Viet Nam era with the United States Air Force.  Tom had worked at various places which included Smith Corona, National Cash and Anderson Windows before he found his true passion which was using his skills at carpentry and construction with his company Conger Construction.  Many in the area have benefited and enjoyed some of his projects.

Tom's other passion was to cook and barbecue.  He volunteered his time and shared his talent helping out with clambakes and various community services which included breakfasts at Brockway Trucking events, Elks, American Legions and hunting camps.  His sense of humor and genuine interest in people will be missed by many.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Linda Holmes Conger of Cortland, his children, David Conger  of Austin TX, Julie  (Steve)Sebring of Saint Charles, MO, Matthew (Gina) Conger of Alexandria, VA, Elizabeth  (Frank) Zaccaro of Wilmington, NC and Robert (Rebecca Murphy Fish) Fish of Varna, NY.  Surviving as well , 20 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, sister, Ruth Ann Jacque of Webster, NY and brother,  Michael  (Patsy) Conger of Chicago, IL., several nieces and nephews as well as sisters in law, Betty Conger and Lori Conger both of Groton and brother in law, Jim (Shelly Hunt) Holmes.  Besides his parents he was predeceased by his siblings, Edith Marks, Jack Conger and Herbert "Bud" Conger.

  In keeping with Tom's wishes there will be a private graveside service .  After the graveside service  the family extends an invitation to please join them for a celebration of Tom's life at the Groton American Legion on Wednesday, July 18th 2018 at noon.
